What are your rates?
My standard fee for individual therapy is $250. I do offer a limited number of sliding scale spots. Payments are accepted in the form of credit cards.
Rates and Insurance
Do you take insurance?
I take a limited number of in network insurance clients through Alma. Currently those slots are filled. If you have out of network insurance benefits and mental health services are covered, you would qualify for reimbursement. You would pay for sessions first, and at the end of the month, I will provide an itemized statement known as a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Questions to ask your insurance provider when confirming your benefits:
Do I have out-of-network benefits and is mental health covered using CPT codes 90834?
What is my deductible and how much of it have I met?
When does the deductible reset?
What is my coinsurance after the deductible and what is the max out-of-pocket before insurance pays fully?
What is the allowed reimbursement amount for psychotherapy?
What is your cancellation policy?
I require 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or change the session time. Late cancellations will be charged the full session, and please note that insurance companies do not reimburse for missed sessions. If you need to change session times within 24 hours, you will be charged the late cancellation fee as well as for the new session time.
Therapy process
How long are sessions? How often will we meet?
The first session is 60 minutes, and subsequent sessions are 45 minutes. Sessions are weekly, and I will work with you to find a consistent time. I have found that in biweekly therapy, too much time passes between sessions and much of the time is spent trying to catch up on the past two weeks. When we meet weekly, it helps to establish a certain flow and continuity and allows for a deeper therapeutic relationship.
What is the consultation and intake process like?
During the consultation, we’ll see if we’re a good fit.
Questions to think about for our consultation include:
What brings you to therapy and why now?
How do you imagine therapy helping you?
If you have been in therapy before, what was helpful and not helpful?
Was there something in my profile or webpage that you connected with?
On the consultations, I also like you to have a topic that you would bring into therapy that we can discuss. We’ll talk through it a bit, and I can give you a roadmap on how I would work with you on the issue.
The intake is a continuation of our conversation during the consult. This is where we explore the issues that brought you to therapy and how they came to be as we consider your background and history.
What do the regular sessions look like and what results can I expect?
After the intake, the sessions are much less structured, and we can talk about anything you want to discuss. Subjects people might bring include their past week, an experience where they had a heightened emotion, something that’s been bothering them, or a pattern they noticed about themselves and want to unpack. In these sessions, we can begin to process the emotions around these topics and start to make connections on how they came to be. The process of therapy is less a science and more an art. There’s no one-size-fits-all, but for many people, they may notice that they feel worse before they start to feel better. I always tell clients there was no course in school that taught us to feel our emotions. Therapy helps you to become more aware of what comes up for you internally in different situations, and as a result, the intensity of the emotion may feel overwhelming or even destabilizing. We’ll work together to come up with concrete tools to help you regulate and begin to tolerate these feelings.
If it feels like we might be a good fit in working together, reach out to schedule a consultation. I look forward to hearing from you.
